Principal's Message
Welcome to Detroit Lakes High School
The things that happen here at DLHS are connected to three important words: caring, collaboration, and creativity. You will find high levels of academic rigor, athletic achievement, participation in arts, music, and activities, and exposure to community partners in our school. All of these things are important to us as they provide many opportunities for success and learning. DLHS truly is a school of opportunities for everyone. Our commitment to all students experiencing our Academy Model demonstrates that we are serious about creating a truly inclusive school environment that prepares ALL kids for success. We are proud of the students in our hallways who come to us from all backgrounds and together represent the LAKERS. LAKERS are resilient, they have a tremendous work ethic, and they do things the right way!
My message to students each year is to have a dream and dream big! As Coach Jim Valvano (Jimmy V) so often said “Nothing can happen if it's not first a dream. If you have someone with a dream, if you have a motivated person with a goal and a vision, if you have someone that never gives up, who has great hope, anything can happen.” The things students experience here in our high school prepare them to make these dreams happen! Our staff is amazing and works tirelessly to build the skills necessary for our students to have success in a variety of settings beyond DLHS. As a former LAKER myself, I can assure you that the things you learn here can, and really do make these dreams come true!
If you have questions, need assistance, or would like to come see any of these amazing things in action, please feel free to contact me directly. I welcome any opportunity to discuss what occurs within the walls of our high school or get feedback from our community.
