In order for a senior to participate in the graduation ceremony, all requirements found in Policy 613 (Graduation Policy) must be met by the end of the last day of school (Friday, May 20th). Grades of incomplete in any course required for graduation are treated as a failure in determining if a student has satisfied all requirements. In addition, any senior who still owes fines, fees, or detention time due to unexcused absences, tardies or disciplinary incidents, must satisfy those requirements before the end of the school day on Friday, May 20th to be eligible to walk in the ceremony. If you are uncertain of your graduation status, please visit with your school counselor as soon as possible.
Graduation practice is scheduled for all graduating seniors at 8:30 AM on Friday, May 20th in the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse.
This is a mandatory practice for seniors expecting to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Attendance will be taken. If you know that you will have a conflict with this date and time, I would encourage you to make alterations to your plans so that you can attend this practice.
Remember your CAP and GOWN: After rehearsal we will be doing the Senior Parade of Schools immediately after the rehearsal, and we would like all of you to attend. We will board buses and transport you to the district schools so you can see your former teachers and let our younger Lakers see the goal they should aspire to achieve.
11:00AM - Seniors! Wood Fire Pizza will be set up in the visitors parking lot at DLHS for lunch!
Tickets will not be distributed for the graduation ceremony. Seating will take place on a “first come, first served” basis. The doors to the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse will be locked and will open at 1:00PM. Reserving seats prior to 1:00PM will not be possible. The graduation ceremony begins at 2:00PM.
Seating- Guests can sit in the bleachers in the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse - there are several options for handicap seating in the Fieldhouse. All chairs on the floor are reserved for students and staff.
Parking - Guests may park in the parking lot in front of the high school and enter through the main doors. Again, there are several handicap parking spaces available.
All seniors participating in the graduation ceremony must report to the high school by 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 22nd. DO NOT BE LATE! All seniors will report to the Ralph Anderson gym for graduation preparation. Final cap and gown adjustments can be made at this time and line supervisors will be present to confirm marching order. The graduation ceremony begins promptly at 2:00 pm.
Parking - Students should park in the North East Teacher Parking Lot/Bus Loop and enter the building through door E25.
The cap and gown are considered formal dress and are the distinguishing mark of the graduating senior.
The tassel is to be worn on the right side of the graduation cap. It will be moved to the left side after all seniors have received their diploma cover and returned to their seat. This will be done as a class together before tossing the cap into the air.
Men should wear a collared shirt and pants with dress shoes. Sandals are not allowed. This is a formal event. Please do not chew gum.
There is very little opportunity for picture taking during the commencement exercise. It is advised that all pictures taken with caps and gowns be done before or after the ceremony. Please discuss this with your family and friends.
Throwing your cap… it is traditional that after the graduating class has been presented and all graduates have received their diploma cover, the cap is then tossed into the air. However, since all caps are being tossed, there is a likelihood that it will not land where you are sitting. We do not stop the ceremony so that you can find your cap. You may want to put your name somewhere inside your cap for identification purposes.
You will NOT be receiving your diploma at the graduation ceremony, but you will be receiving the diploma cover. Once all grades have been finalized, your diploma will be sent to you in the mail.
Chromebooks - Chromebooks must be returned to the Media Center (new office in room 166) as soon as you have completed your final assignments. Please plan to spend a couple of minutes cleaning your device in the media center before turning it in for final checkout. Cleaning supplies and materials will be available for seniors in the media center.
Lunch Accounts - Balances remaining will stay within the family account if you have siblings in the school district. If there are no siblings in the district, a check will be issued to the parents of the senior shortly after the school year is completed. Accounts owing money to the school must be paid ASAP!
Student Possessions - All student possessions (school materials, class projects from art, wood shop, PE clothing, etc.) must be removed from the school prior to the end of the last day. If any possessions are left in the building, they will be kept at the school for about one week after the school year ends. After this time, unclaimed possessions will be donated or discarded. THIS INCLUDES GYM LOCKERS!
Textbooks and Fees - Students must turn in all textbooks when required by teachers. In addition, any unpaid fees (library fees, damaged book fees, etc.) must be settled before the end of the last day of school or your family will be billed.
Limited Counseling Center Services in the Summer - If you are in need of a transcript for a college application or for employment requirements, please contact the Counseling office. A new program will be available for requesting transcripts soon - we will communicate this information to the seniors!. Our Counseling Center will be open during the summer, but only on a part-time basis. Contact the Counseling Center at 847-4491 x2320 for more information.
